ROLES AND DESCRIPTION
First you and your group need to decide on a role for each person. Treasurer: Keeps track of budgeting. This person will keep a running total of what your group has bought. This person will have to make sure that the group does not go over their budget. The treasure will do this buy calculating how much money is left after every purchase. Manager: Organizes materials and makes sure construction follows original design. This person is in charge of keeping track of all paper work. This person also needs to check that the construction plan is following the plan. Secretary: Keeps written record of research. This person writes down all of the answers to the research questions. Architect: Draws blueprints. This person draws the blue prints that show a top view, side view and front view of the building. The blueprints must be drawn accurately with use of a ruler and graph paper. *Remember that each group member is in charge of contributing to all areas of work. Each role is meant to keep each student accountable. |

Step One
Now, you and your co-workers need to do some research on earthquakes to make sure your design is based off of factual information. Here are some research questions that you and you company need to answer before designing your structure:

STEP TwoYou are given a $150,000 budget to create an earthquake safe classroom for the Simi Valley Elementary School.
You may not go over this budget. You will only be able to shop at the Ms. Harter's Supply Store in order to buy the materials you will need to build your structure. Ms. Harter's supply store is selling construction paper, paper clips, straws and tape. These are the only materials you will have available to build your structure. Construction Paper: 10,000 per sheet Paper Clip: 1,000 per paper clip Straws: 3,000 per straw Masking Tape: 2,000 per inch Your treasurer needs to keep track of the amount of money your company has spent at Ms. Harter's Supply Store. |
